WHO WE ARE
Our clients inspire us,
our expertise defines us
We recognize that wealth is not static or one dimensional, and understand that no two clients are the same. Our investment and wealth management strategies strive to reflect each client’s purpose, passions and priorities.
We excel at connecting
When you work with Glenmede, you can expect direct access to our senior experts, open and transparent communication and creative ideas grounded in our collaborative approach to providing you with the attention and investment opportunities you deserve.
You benefit from the best of both worlds
Glenmede personifies the balance of size and strength. Privately owned and independent, we take a long-term perspective and are agile enough to create personal, enduring relationships. Yet with $43.6 billion in assets under management, we are large enough to provide access to a wide range of investment strategies and opportunities along with forward-looking solutions.
A history of stability in people, processes and philosophy
The Glenmede Trust Company was founded in 1956 for one purpose — to serve in perpetuity as Trustee and Administrator of The Pew Memorial Trust, the initial funding source for the nonprofit now known as The Pew Charitable Trusts.
This was a bold objective and demanded two distinct qualities from the newly established Glenmede Trust Company: an everlasting commitment to fiduciary values and the longevity to fulfill its duties.
Over decades, we have consistently combined these qualities with purposeful innovation to keep our clients one step ahead in this ever-changing world.
From our earliest days, we have demonstrated a commitment to providing leading-edge solutions and services, personalized to help clients achieve their intended outcomes.
Glenmede milestones over the years
1960-70s: In its first years of operation, Glenmede’s primary responsibility was to administer The Pew Memorial Trust and two additional trusts established by the founders. We began to recognize that the investment platform created for The Pew Trusts could be successfully leveraged to serve other individuals, families and institutions.
With that in mind, we expanded our wealth advisory expertise into a comprehensive suite of services to include fiduciary, tax and philanthropic services and financial planning.
1980s: In anticipation of our clients’ need to diversify their growing portfolios, we introduced international investment strategies.
1990s: We began to supplement our suite of proprietary investment products with external managers. This gave clients access to a wider range of investment styles and expertise, while allowing us to focus on our core investment strengths.
We also introduced private equity and hedge fund strategies, and a proprietary venture capital fund, to provide clients with unique opportunities for nontraditional sources of return.
In order to better serve our growing client base, we expanded our presence beyond Philadelphia to include offices in Princeton and Morristown, New Jersey; Wilmington, Delaware; and Cleveland, Ohio.
2000s: Glenmede introduced quantitative investment strategies to give our clients more flexibility in defining and controlling the risk in their portfolios.
Glenmede Investment Management LP was established to make our family of proprietary mutual funds and separately managed accounts available to a broader group of investors, including corporations, public plans, foundations, endowments and not-for-profit clients.
We formalized two long-standing practices, Endowment & Foundation and Individual & Family Wealth, to better serve the unique needs of those clients.
Our New York City, Washington, DC, and Palm Beach, Florida, offices opened to serve clients and investment partners in these metropolitan areas.
We established a Private Wealth office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as part of Glenmede’s targeted regional expansion strategy.
