With the two Senate seats in Georgia being won by Democratic candidates, there is greater clarity surrounding President-elect Joseph R. Biden’s ability to execute on campaign promises, including those related to sustainable and impact investing. 

Beneficiary designations are powerful tools. Depending on the asset, your designations provide an initial source of liquidity for named beneficiaries until your estate is settled and fully distributed. 

Aligned control of Congress is likely positive for the economy, but a headwind for equities due to the threat of higher taxes.
 

Aligned control of Congress should enable greater implementation of the Biden policy agenda, which is probably neutral to positive for the economy, but more problematic for stock markets due to potential tax increases. 

Independent of this week’s elections, tax law change is a persistent concern. If changes do not come now, they will come either as a result of future elections or the sunset of portions of the current law on December 31, 2025.
