Resources for Supporting Nonprofits During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Download PDFAs we come to grips with the magnitude of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are seeing a dramatic increase in demand for direct aid, food and services, while at the same time nonprofits are being forced to cancel gatherings and events, deal with limited cash reserves, and reduce staff. Fortunately, communities, charitable organizations and donors are coming together to create innovative ways to address the urgent social, economic and health implications of COVID-19.
Some of the ways we can provide needed support to nonprofits and the people they serve include:
1. Contribute to collaborative funding and research efforts specifically created to address COVID-19.
2. Increase financial support to local charitable organizations that provide direct relief.
3. Adjust existing foundation grants from restricted program funding to general operating support, and loosen application and reporting requirements and deadlines.
4. Grant emergency funds or loans to organizations through this crisis.
5. Consider long-term funding needs of charitable organizations for sustainability.
6. Support advocacy efforts for public policy changes to fight the pandemic and deliver an equitable response for all affected.
Glenmede is committed to helping our clients and the community harness the power of philanthropy now and in the coming months to respond to the many and varied needs arising due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Endowment and Foundation Advisory Team is here to lend support, offer guidance, and provide resources and information.
We have created the following list of resources for philanthropic individuals, foundations and donor-advised funds seeking to provide financial support, and for nonprofits in need of support. Included are charitable organizations providing direct relief as well as organizations coordinating relief efforts and sharing funding opportunities.

National organizations providing information and coordinated efforts on funding opportunities and support to nonprofits
Candid’s website provides new information and resources regarding recent grants made for COVID-19, viewable by location and specific issue area. They also offer insights and observations on the philanthropic communities’ response to the pandemic.
COF’s website is offering internal and external resources. Internal resources are related to business continuity or sample communications with staff. External resources are related to how your foundation might shift grant-making and create response funds, and they include resources from the government, peer networks, and other experts.
Center for Disaster Philanthropy
CDP is actively working on many fronts. They offer a COVID-19 disaster profile which is updated several times a week with links to key resources with accurate and relevant information about the virus. In addition, they recently hosted a COVID-19: How Philanthropy Can Respond webinar; and you can view the recording from the link above. They also launched the CDP COVID-19 Response Fund to support preparedness, containment, response and recovery activities for those affected and for the responders.
Starting Friday March 20 at 2pm ET, and every Friday in the coming weeks, Exponent Philanthropy intends to host a live discussion for all lean funders to connect around response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Exponent also offers resources for foundation leaders to collaborate and connect with one another as well as disaster response resources.
National Center for Nonprofits
The NCFP website is dedicated to providing services for COVID-19 response and giving resources for giving families. NCFP is actively curating funding opportunities and resources, which include an issue brief, Leadership in Difficult Times: Guidance for Donors and Giving Families, and other tools.
National Council of Nonprofits
The nationwide network of the National Council of Nonprofits is educating lawmakers about how nonprofits are on the front lines responding to the dire straits their communities are facing. They offer advice and resources for nonprofit organizations and offer ways to connect with other nonprofits in the community.
National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) is working with financial institutions like Glenmede to support donors looking to make gifts through their donor advised funds to support COVID-19. They offer resources and insights for donors who want to support responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and offer a blog with frequent updates.
The Chronicle provides stories and insights to aid your nonprofit plan and prepare for the impact of the coronavirus on your workers and volunteers — and your finances.
The United Philanthropy Forum provides resources to philanthropy serving organizations throughout the United States. These organizations are coordinating efforts in their regions and are providing resources, information and funding opportunities for private foundations and other funders.

Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement, Philanthropy Delaware & Delaware Community Foundation
These three organizations have partnered together to bring resources related to the Coronavirus from the Delaware Health and Social Services Division of Public Health. They offer webinars and additional information to coordinate and align Delaware’s nonprofit community to alleviate the impact of the crisis in Delaware.
Florida
FPN is compiling resources for philanthropic response to the anticipated effects of the coronavirus on under-resourced and vulnerable communities: how you can help, access to webinars, guidance for philanthropic communications, and resources for your organization.
Florida Nonprofit Alliance offers resources to support nonprofits during the COVID-19 Pandemic including available state resources.
This offers resources for Florida Nonprofits and small businesses.
New Jersey
Council of New Jersey Grantmakers
CNJG is partnering with the Center for Non-profits to offer information and communications on how philanthropy can support COVID-19 response and relief in New Jersey. They are offering time and space for funders to share what they are doing and strategies to address community needs.
Community Foundation of New Jersey
All across New Jersey, fundholders, clients, and other partners are using philanthropy to make a meaningful difference in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Utilize this link as a frequently-updated collection of ideas and projects to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
New York
This organization provides both news of coronavirus (COVID-19) and the local impact on communities. They provided a webpage to help gather and share important updates, facts, and resources impacting New York.
Philanthropy New York intends to host weekly member webinars to share philanthropic responses and to organize efforts around responding to COVID-19 (coronavirus).
New York Council of Nonprofits
NYCON has gathered local and national resources that your nonprofit may find helpful in light of the COVID-19/Coronovirus Pandemic. Offering links to resources, guides, and policy updates to services and knowledge.
Focused on long-term inequities among New Yorkers they offer resources, analysis and action steps as they emerge from New York’s grassroots movements for justice.
Ohio
Philanthropy Ohio intends to host a series of calls starting on Wednesday, March 18 at 3 p.m. with local and state experts to share ways that funders can identify the unmet needs in their communities and discuss best practices in preparedness and response. They have compiled philanthropic preparedness and response resources which include summaries of Governor DeWine’s press conferences and orders.
Forefront has compiled a list of emergency funds and other collective actions that have been created across the state in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Pennsylvania
Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania
GWP has compiled a list of national and local resources that provide information and address action steps for COVID-19. Foundations and other philanthropic institutions dedicated to improving quality of life across southwestern Pennsylvania have come together with unprecedented speed, to create an Emergency Action Fund to lessen the damaging effects of the COVID-19 virus on residents, especially the most vulnerable.

Philanthropy Network of Greater Philadelphia
Philanthropy Network provides information on how to mobilize to support a coordinated response among funders as well as with key public and government agencies. They are providing frequent updates as well as briefings on the latest developments in the Philadelphia area.
Washington, D.C.
Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers
Offers local resources, news, and information about getting support to those in the greater Washington, D.C. area as well as information about contributing to the emergency funds that have been established.
ACT for Alexandria – A Community Foundation
Offers opportunities for nonprofits to participate in weekly calls for updates on available grants.
